This track is a memory of a secondhand record shop where we bought our LPs. We each found our own favourites. One of us was into The Who, someone else was obsessed with Hendrix. There was Jethro Tull, Genesis, Pink Floyd and, of course, Led Zeppelin. It was a treasure trove of great music that seemed from another time already back then in the 80s.
lyrics
This place had it all
When we were too cool for school
Rifling through the racks
All the good tunes
That hit all the right notes
Talking 'bout Winchester Wax
Golden oldie goldmine
By the Golden Bridge
Clad in Sta-Prest burgundy slacks
All felt so smooth
When you found your own groove
Whatever works in Winchester Wax
Something always turned up
Digging in the past
Ashes and diamonds in the stacks
If only we could stay
Forever and a day
Living off the classical tracks
And if things go down the tubes
No one else to blame
We had all the clues
That the songs remain the same
Gatefold memories
And triple LPs
Getting off and going back
An undercover smoke filled room
The one you painted black
It’s easy looking back
To have the presence of mind
I didn’t think I’d fall through the cracks
Whatever I did wrong
I’m keeping all the songs
From down at the Winchester Wax
Down at the Winchester Wax
