This is about a couple that were friends with my grandparents. They would occasionally appear, all smiles, on those long summer days in the garden in Tolleshunt d'Arcy. They were keen sailors and I imagine their idyllic times off the Essex coast, away from everything and in a way that we long for so much now. I don't know much about them but I have wanted to write a song about them for a long time and this is what I came home with.
lyrics
Sailing away
In the last century
With not a care
For whatever would come to be
Happy in the knowledge
That you were side by side
Port and starboard lovers
Drifting out with the Blackwater tide
Paul and Robin
You were a crew of two
Made to be together
In your cotton sailing jackets
Of sun faded blue
So long ago but
So bright it seems to me
You shared a joy of living
And a life where you were free
When your yacht was in our garden
I climbed on board to play
Making my adventures
Thinking life would remain this way
So Paul and Robin
You were a crew of two
Made to be together
In your cotton sailing jackets
Of sun faded blue
